dc.description.abstract | IMO has established International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediment 2004 in February 2004 in order to prevent transfer of aquatic organisms through ballast water. According to the Convention, nations are preparing ratification and legislation process and encouraging the development of treatment system to satisfy the performance standard in the Convention. Various technologies are in research in Korea. Among them, Techcross Inc. is granted Basic Approval of ballast water management system that makes use of Active Substances for Electro-CleenTM System (ECS) for the first time in the world and it is on progress of Final Approval evaluation. For Type Approval from Korean Administration, shipboard tests are required. Trial operations are conducted with 8,300GT M/V Yokohama of STX Pan Ocean and 27,000DWT M/V Greenwing. In this dissertation, it is confirmed that Electro-CleenTM System would satisfy IMO disinfection standards as well as installable in new ships and existing ships in aspects of space and safety. | - |
