dc.description.abstractWaterborne transportation of hazardous material has potential risk of endangering environment as well as loss of property and lives. Therefore, many international organizations and governments have strict regulations regarding the design and construction of ships intended to carry dangerous material. Fire and explosion accidents are one of primary targets of such regulations since, as statistics show, consequence of fire and explosion accidents tends to cause large damage to ships, thus incurring severe consequences to lives, property and environment. In this paper, a case study of using fire simulation for the fire safety assessment of a ship intended to transport radioactive waste material is presented. Fire simulation is used at the design stage to verify that the design is safe for multiple possible fire accident scenarios.-
