dc.description.abstract | The OWC wave energy converter integrated with the breakwater has been widely applied due to its advantage in economic feasibility and structural stability, while its construction and installation gives technical challenges due to abnormal structural characteristics. An OWC pilot plant integrated with breakwater is planned to be built at coastal water of Chagwi-Do in Jeju, and we analyzed a similar precedent construction case at Sakata of Japan so that we can identify technical issues and possible solutions involved in the design, construction and installation of an OWC wave power plant. The caisson structure for OWC wave energy converter requires higher standard in construction accuracy than ordinary breakwater caissons. Furthermore, the Chagwi-Do OWC plant retains additional difficulty due to its single caisson configuration without side extension of breakwater, which results in wave forces from rear and side directions as well as front. | - |
