dc.description.abstractThe latency is the most important constraint of underwater acoustic ad-hoc network (UAN) because of the slow propagation speed of the acoustic wave and the low data rate of the acoustic communication link. We propose a novel medium access control (MAC) protocol for UAN by employing sectored multichannel acoustic sensor (SMAS) system to improve the latency of the UAN. Although the node is equipped with half-duplex modem, the three consecutive nodes communicate simultaneously using the SMAS and directional information, and the latency of the proposed MAC protocol is less than the direct communication between the source and the destination.-
