dc.description.abstract | This paper provides the numerical simulation results for 2D dam-break problems in water tanks to observe the variation of the free surface and the pressure in the tanks by varying initial turbulence intensity and wall surface roughness. A finite volume method of second order discretization accuracy in time and space is used for solving the RANS equations. A two phase VOF(Volume of Fluid) method and the standard k-εturbulence model are adopted to compute the free surface and to meet the turbulence closure, respectively. In conclusions, the free surface and pressure variations in the tanks are mostly influenced by the strength of initial turbulence intensity, while the surface roughness effects are not significant. | - |
