dc.description.abstract | Recent trends in engineering information management technology of the shipbuilding industry are characterized by the spread of product lifecycle management (PLM) concept and the increased demand on better use of ship engineering data after ship delivery. Typical approach taken for the application of PLM systems in the shipbuilding industry is either customizing PLM systems developed for the use in the mechanical industry or developing a new ship lifecycle management system according to information requirements specific to the shipbuilding industry. Product structure data, a hierarchical structure of parts constituting a product, forms the backbone of all engineering data managed by PLM systems. Product structure differs depending on industry’s requirements or design and manufacturing methods. Therefore, an information modeling approach suitable for ship’s product structure data is necessary for effectively applying PLM concept to the shipbuilding industry. In the study, STEP PDM Schema, a typical information model for the representation of product structure data in the mechanical field is analyzed. After the analysis, an approach for information modeling on product structure data across ship lifecycle is drawn through the comparison with information requirements from the shipbuilding industry. Particularly, considered is the utilization of ship’s product structure data at the phase of middle and end of life after the delivery. | - |
