dc.description.abstractThe characteristics of side-by-side moored FSRU and LNGC are studied by linear potential method; MLINHYDH, WADAM and Hydrostar. The hydrodynamic interaction in gap between FSRU and LNGC occurs and the gap flow affects the behaviors of FSRU and LNGC. The gap flow is the result of flow in narrow gap. The gap flows can be divided three modes. There are the longitudinal sloshing mode, transverse sloshing mode and vertical pumping mode. There are the numerical methods to solve the gap flow problem. The linear potential method is the popular one and the viscous CFD method based on Navier-Stokes equations is also used. The problem is the exaggeration of gap flow. This overestimated results also have a bad influence on the motions and forces of FSRU and LNGC. The reasons are the neglect of viscous effect and body motions. The flow in narrow gap is strongly influenced by the viscous and body motions. The linear potential method cannot include the viscous and body motions exactly. Although CFD method can consider viscous and body motions, the use is limited to very simple cases because needs powerful computing power and long time. To predict the gap flow from an engineering perspective, the proper modeling method needs. The comparative study is performed before developing the model.
