Risk-Based Approach (RBA) is a systematic, logical and comprehensive tool to assess risks for the purpose of increasing safety in the life-cycle of a system. Risk-Based Design (RBD), as a new methodology based on the RBA, is being considered for the design and approval of novel types of ships and technologies beyond regulations. But there are lots of challenges in applying the concept on their actual design and approval process, and more efforts for the realization of the RBA/RBD methodology are needed. In this presentation, some ideas for the development of industrial standards, as one of the most efficient tools for shipbuilders, are suggested for further discussions.-
