dc.description.abstract | There are many means to transport captured carbon dioxide to sequestration sites, but for marine geological storage sites such as deep sea saline aquifer, two primary means of transportation are pipelines and CO2 carriers. While transportation of liquefied gas through pipelines is already widely used and proven technology, CO2 carriers has not yet been used, except for a very few cases, where CO2 is transported in very small quantity to be used as a food additive. Therefore, due to very limited experience of CO2 carriers, risk of transporting CO2 by ship is not well known. This research tries to analyze the risk of CO2 carriers by first identifying hazards related to the operation of CO2 carriers. Expert group with expertise in various aspects of ship design and operation reviewed conceptual design of CO2 carrier and identified possible hazards. Then expected frequency and severity are estimated. The resulting HAZID worksheet gives insights to the general risk of CO2 carriers and provides basis for further quantitative risk analysis.rtation of liquefied gas through pipelines is already widely used and proven technology, CO2 carriers has not yet been used, except for a very few cases, where CO2 is transported in very small quantity to be used as a food additive.
