dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a numerical study of wave forces acting on a semi-submersible structure using a Cartesian-grid based flow simulation method. In this study, finite volume discretization with volume-of-fluid(VOF) method was adopted to solve two-phase Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical simulations about a semi-submersible under regular wave conditions were carried out. Firstly, wave- induced motions of a semi-submersible structure in head sea were validated by comparing experimental data. Then nonlinear characteristics of wave forces were discussed. Wave exciting and drift forces were compared with potential-flow based calculations. solve two-phase Navier-Stokes equations.
