dc.description.abstract | The floating type wave energy converter has been rated as possessing high efficiency of energy-conversion because it absorbs the wave energy directly. However, in actual application, the devices are exposed to waves directly, so, the structural vulnerability has become a much more important issue. Therefore internal frames should be installed to protect the device from unpredictable wave loadings. This paper presents a sensitivity study on the structural response characteristics of the WEC. The structural analysis results and optimal design of the WEC for operating at 40m depth in the ocean are included in this paper. Initial optimal design of the internal frames is determined based on the maximum stress results using finite element analysis. For fulfilling the optimal design, it is recommended that the material and the array of equipment and internal frames should be modified according to the results of the paper.ctural vulnerability has become a much more important issue.
