dc.description.abstract | For the management of ships ballast water discharge by port state according to the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention, it is necessary to understand the amount and frequency of ballast water discharge. The Law of Ballast Water Management of Korea demand to all of incoming ships the report of ballast water discharge when the IMO Convention will coming into effect. The reporting of ballast water discharge is not yet mandatory by law, and we can not directly estimate the amount of ballast water uptake or discharge in each ports. The amount of ballast water uptake and discharge can predicted by multiplying the empirical ratio by the amount of net cargo loading. The information of net cargo loading is provided by the shipping data based of SP-IDC Data Base. This paper considers the reporting and analysis system for ballast water discharge, and presents predicted statistics of ballast water upload and discharge at the ports of Korea in 2011.ment of Korea demand to all of incoming ships the report of ballast water discharge when the IMO Convention will coming into effect.
