Abstract

For much resident population and industrial complex in coastal area, the demand of food, energy, and water is growing fast in the area. In Korea, the total domestic energy consumption is 271.4M toe. 35% of the total consumption, 96.3Mtoe, is estimated to be spent for air conditioning and heating in coastal area. Desalination for agriculture and industrial factories needs plenty of energy, therefore, water shortage often directly relates to energy issue. The ocean water, 97% of the entire water in the earth, has enormous dissolved substances and energy as heat source. Thus, people in the coast can get resource and energy from the ocean, then this easily could be a way to overcome fossil fuel economy. 27% of Korea population lives in cities along the coast, and 71% of industrial complex is running near the coast.
