dc.description.abstractA deep-sea manganese mining robot has received growing recognition for its development of plentiful marine mineral resources. Among these systems, a pick-up device is a core component because it actually undertakes to pick up manganese nodules. A pick-up device is mounted in the front of the mining robot and collects mineral resources from the ocean floor. The conceptual design of pick-up device should consider the economical, technical and environmental aspects. Three types of pick-up system: mechanical, hydraulic and hybrid methods have been proposed so far. In this paper, hydraulic pick-up device that employs Coanda effect is proposed for the deep-sea manganese mining robot. And design optimization of hydraulic pick-up device that considers collecting performance is conducted.les.
