dc.description.abstractKorea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST, former KORDI) has been developing various technologies for the national strategy such as establishment of ballast water information system, survey on status of ballast water discharge and conduct on port risk assessment, as part of the Government projects. The national ballast water information system is linked with the geographic information system and, the database consists of shipping records, ballast water discharge records, port environmental data, risky species taxonomic and distribution data and geographic data. This ballast water information system was applied to the environmental comparison and risk assessment of the ports. KIOST conducted port risk assessments through the GloBallast Program method which had slightly been modified by KIOST, and also species-specific method which was orginally constructed by CSIRO. This paper shows the modified programs and the assessment results for the port risk assessment in Republic of Korea.d conduct on port risk assessment, as part of the Government projects.
