dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a numerical study on motion characteristics of a Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in waves. Time-domain simulations considering both memory effect and viscous effect are conducted to investigate the motion behaviors of the TLP in waves. Hydrodynamic coefficients and wave forces are calculated using higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM) based on potential flow model. Viscous drag forces acting on hull and tendon are included by using Morisons formula. Focus is made on nonlinear effect of viscous forces on the TLP motion such as springing, ringing and set-down which is mainly governed by surge offset induced by wave drift forces. A set of model test data were used for comparison of the simulation results. in waves.
