dc.description.abstract | The effect of aspect ratio of the ellipsoidal cross section of a vortex generation cylinder was experimentally investigated for 1st energy transformation efficiency of vortex-induced vibration energy extraction device (VIVEED). While the previous studies were performed on a circular cross section cylinder, there have been no studies about VIV energy devices on the ellipsoidal one. In this study, an experiment to find the optimal shape of ellipsoidal cross section cylinder was performed for a translational VIVEED. The reduced velocity and electrical resistance were also used as the experimental variables. The energy efficiency for ellipsoidal cross section was best at 0.44 in aspect ratio (cross-flow direction length over in-line direction length), and better at 0.33 ~ 0.5 in aspect ratio.
