This paper describes an initial challenge to investigate the effect of placement of aids to navigation (AtoN) and its evaluation model through the AtoN simulator. In order to estimate quantitatively the effect of AtoN placement, the performance index is proposed based on the visibility using human factor suggested by IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities). The effect of AtoN placement can be quantified by calculating the amount of visible recognition in the view of navigator’s eye. Quantified effect of AtoN placement can be evaluated through AtoN Simulator. AtoN Simulator is based on ship handling simulator and has been being developed by KIOST/KRISO. For the evaluation, simulation by AtoN Simulator is carried out at waterway in Busan Port in South Korea.ance index is proposed based on the visibility using human factor suggested by IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities).
