dc.description.abstractThis paper summarizes model test results of WILS-JIP(Wave Induced Loads on Ships-Joint Industry Project) by KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering) focusing on springing & whipping responses. The model tests were carried out with a 1/60 scaled model ship for a 10,000 TEU container. Six segments and a steel backbone was used to match bending & torsion stiffness. 2nd and 3rd order springing of bending & torsion moment in regular waves is investigated and the higher order resonances are discussed in bending cases. Bending & torsion whipping was picked up in higher waves and its typical behaviors are also discussed. In irregular springing, nonlinear effect and linear contribution are compared by measuring bending moments in irregular waves with/without cutting natural frequency component.d out with a 1/60 scaled model ship for a 10,000 TEU container.
