dc.description.abstract | A dynamic behavior characteristics of a free hanging riser for an OTEC system is analyzed under a top excitation with a numerical method. An OTEC riser in free hanging presents the strong non-linear behavior characteristics by a top excitation. It is verified that the top tension of a free hanging riser dominantly vibrates in the double with the excitation frequency, that is clearly originated from the axial vibration of a riser. The top tension shows the variation in double with the excitation frequency under no current, on the other hand, the top tension of a riser has two kinds of frequencies under a current. It is proved that the axial vibration of a free hanging riser is important to dominate the riser tension under a top excitation..ion.
