dc.description.abstractRecently, OTEC system is being developed in KRISO, among which vortex separator is an essential element in developing deep sea water intake system. Vortex separator intends to separate the fluid from mixture of fluid and particles. As a first phase, this study computationally models the rotating flow inside a vortex separator into which flow is injected into the domain. During the rotation initiated by the tangential momentum, the hydrodynamic force interacts with gravitational force as well as friction, makes the flow instable and complex. Unsteady and incompressible flow formulation is employed to effectively solve the flow dynamics inside the vortex separator.
