dc.description.abstractNumerous underwater activities using ROVs are performed in the ocean these days. Although a few trials of hearing underwater sound via ROVs have been done, Most ROVs do not have listening ability at the moment. Currently KRISO is developing a compact-sized underwater sound replay system in order for ROV operators to easily understand underwater acoustic environment by using their ears. It is composed of a subsea measurement system including two hydrophones and a surface replay system with two speakers. An Ethernet link is used for data and command transmission between the two subsystems. Special signal processing is needed because of the difference of sound speeds in the two media. The transfer functions from the speakers to the ears should be considered. This paper briefly describe the system configuration and its important specifications.
