Squat is an additional sinkage and trim of a ship caused by hydrodynamic force between the seabed and the bottom of a ship. Most of the sinkage and trim were studied at the condition that a ship moves straight forward. However, in shallow waters, a manoeuvring ship can be significantly affected by hydrodynamic force between the seabed and a ship, hence she can experience relatively large attitude change during manoeuvring motion, than moving straight forward. In this study, results of captive model tests of KLNG in shallow waters were analyzed in the viewpoint of squat phenomenon. The changes of model ship’s attitudes were analyzed with respect to various test conditions. (Speeds, drift angles, rudder angles, existence of appendages) and results of captive model tests of KLNG in shallow waters compared with three empirical formulas.aters, a manoeuvring ship can be significantly affected by hydrodynamic force between the seabed and a ship, hence she can experience relatively large attitude change during manoeuvring motion, than moving straight forward.
