dc.description.abstractIN GENERAL, CAPTIVE MODEL TESTS SUCH AS HORIZONTAL PLANAR MOTION MECHANISM (HPMM) TESTS ARE CONDUCTED TO ESTIMATE THE HYDRODYNAMIC COEFFICIENTS OF THE MANOEUVRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION. MANOEUVRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION ON A SHIP ARE DESCRIBED WITH 3-DEGREES OF FREEDOM (DOF), BUT 4-DOF MANOEUVRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION ARE ALSO USED IN CASE OF SMALL METACENTRIC HEIGHT (GM) OF THE SHIP. IN THIS STUDY, HPMM CAPTIVE MODEL TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO ESTIMATE MANOEUVRING CHARACTERISTICS OF A SHIP AT LARGE HEEL CONDITION. THE HEEL EFFECTS ON HYDRODYNAMIC FORCES AND MOMENTS WERE ANALYZED, FOCUSED ON CASES AT LARGE (>10DEGREES) HEEL CONDITIONS. FURTHERMORE, QUESTIONS WHEN ADOPTING CONVENTIONAL HPMM DEVICE IN LARGE HEEL ANGLE CONDITION ARE RAISED, AND AN ALTERNATIVE TO ENHANCE THE CONVENTIONAL DEVICE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS IS SUGGESTED.WITH 3-DEGREES OF FREEDOM (DOF), BUT 4-DOF MANOEUVRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION ARE ALSO USED IN CASE OF SMALL METACENTRIC HEIGHT (GM) OF THE SHIP.
