dc.description.abstractThe present study experimentally investigates bow-flare slamming loads on an ultra-large containership. Measurement of bow-flare slamming loads were made using a segmented ship model of a 10,000TEU containership with 1:60 scale. The ship model was made to meet elastic similitude with six segments and U-shape open section backbone from which structural responses were obtained. The bow-flare slamming loads were measured with a number of load cells distributed on the bow-flare area. The model test was made in regular and irregular wave conditions for various ship speeds and wave heading angles. The effects of wave heading angle and ship speed on the bow-flare slamming loads are discussed based on the measured data.
