dc.description.abstract | Snow tires or snow chains are normally utilized to drive a car safely at an icy road during winter season. In addition, many car and tire makers conduct a brake performance test at an icy road of proving ground, which is located in high latitude and covered with snow and ice. However, research on fundamental friction characteristics between a tire and ice is still in its early stage. Therefore, the frictional coefficient with model ices was measured by using a plain rubber, tire for summer, and tire for winter as well as the test procedure was proposed in this study. This study is intended to contribute to the development of high performance tire for winter, and we conclude that the result can be useful to evaluate the tire performance on an icy road.titude and covered with snow and ice.
