A Case Study on the Incident Handling and Chemical Treatment for Sinking HNS (Hazardous & Noxious Substance) in Marine Environment

Abstract

Due to the recent rise in the number of HNS (hazardous and noxious substances) shipments in Korean coastal waters, the incidence of spillage accidents is gradually increasing. Unfortunately, the response system for marine pollution in South Korea has been focused on oil spillage accidents, and systematic studies related to HNS spillage accidents, their handling and follow-up management have not been conducted.
