Although the number of high-tech large warships is minimal, they act as central elements to many naval fleet tactics. Therefore, they are always monitored by opponents, and become primary targets when conflicts occur. Over time, they have been more easily observed during operations by detection systems, such as satellites and UAVs, as they have evolved. Furthermore, they are seriously threatened by the rapid advancement of weapon systems technology. These facts have led countries to invest in improving the survivability, which is determined in terms of susceptibility, vulnerability, and recoverability, of the ship. The fruit of the improvements in susceptibility via signal reduction and deception technology has significant importance because it is becoming more difficult for a ship to maintain mission capability and functionality once it is damaged by an advanced weapon system. Ordinary decoys are used when the ship is detected, identified, and attacked by the opponent. Therefore, they are effective only under the premise that the ship has already been exposed. This fatal weakness has facilitated developmental efforts of various alternative methods to deceive the mission location of the ship and the fleet strength. The multi-hedral radar reflector is practically employed on some ships to minimize the exposure of the ship and fleet. This paper reviews the need and the current status of corner reflector decoys and presents the outlook of their development in terms of operational concepts.-
