dc.description.abstractExtreme air temperature and thick ice sheet are technically the most important barrier to explore and develop the Arctic. Especially, ships and offshore structures operating in the Arctic Ocean are threatened with thick ice sheet and big iceberg. The damage extent of the structure and the ice crushing mode dramatically depend on collision scenario between the structure and ice, and the crushing behavior of ice can be classified into ductile, ductile-to-brittle, and brittle behavior. In this study, the compression test of ice was carried out with EG/AD model ice, which is used in KRISO ice model basin. The ice crushing modes according to the collision scenario were measured with a high-speed camera, but also some influencing factors affecting the ice failure were analyzed. This study is intended to contribute to the performance assessment for ice-class vessels and platforms in arctic region.-
