This paper is about the design of leg mating unit(LMU) which is generally utilized to protect impact from very heavy floating offshore structure in float-over installation operations. There are three specifications that are required for a vessel to perform a float-over. First, the vessel must have a width that is narrow enough to fit inside the substructure slot. Next, the vessel must be designed with an open stern in order for the vessel to exit the jacket slot. In order toensure the deck is perfect positioned on the vessel, the vessel must also be equipped with moveable casings. Last, but certainly not least, the vessel must have the strength and stability to carry and transport the topsides. The vessel is critical for a successful float-over operation. It is used to load the topside, transport it to the site, perform the float-over installation. LMUs are steel structures incorporating engineered elastomeric pads capable of absorbing immense loads that are installed in the topside or the substructure of a shallow offshore oil platform. This causes the topside of the platform to slowly lower onto the jacket. As the topside's weight is transferred from the barge to the substructure, vertical compression will occur on the LMUs. The elastomeric pads within the LMUs are designed to take up the static and dynamic forces of the topside structure, as well as mitigate the horizontal forces due to open sea motions during t-
