dc.description.abstract | Ethylene glycol (EG), aliphatic detergent (AD) model ice is a third-generation model ice used in KRISO (Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering) ice tank, but it can pose a hazard to the environment and human health. Therefore, the development of a new-type model ice is required for eco-friendly and relatively harmless with same mechanical properties of the sea ice. In this study, new-type model ice which contain propylene glycol (PG) instead of EG is investigated and the characteristic of flexural strength, compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of model ice is analyzed. A series model tests are performed in the cold room facility at KRISO to define the difference between EG/AD model ice and PG/AD model ice, and then the efficiency of PG/AD model ice is discussed. | - |
