dc.description.abstractIn this paper, a simulation method to evaluate a ship’s crabbing performance (Performance that a ship can maintain its position or move in a windward direction in a side-to-side wind condition.) is suggested. To estimate hydrodynamic forces and moment acting on a ship moving in sideways, manoeuvring captive model tests were carried out. Based on the general arrangement of the ship, wind area of the ship was calculated, then wind force were estimated based on a well-known empirical formula. The crabbing performance of a ship is suggested by so-called butterfly diagram.-
