dc.description.abstractSafety of offshore structures are assessed using deterministic approach following design codes. however, structural systems, inherently contain uncertainties of material properties, environmental loads and tolerance in construction, etc. Accordingly, a rational design should take into account both uncertainties and the economic efficiency. In this study, the structural reliability and availability analysis were carried out using two examples: a cantilever beam and a two-bar frame. Structural reliability analysis was performed after deterministic optimization of the cases. Structural availability values of the two cases were calculated from the proposed method, and brief cost-benefit analyses based on structural availability were then performed to estimate the lifetime costs of the structure.The objective value of failure probability for the structure design life without considering the repair of structure was estimated, and the target failure probability of the structure was obtained by altering CoV of the random variables. The obtained CoV result will be used as a guideline for manufacturer. Finally, the possibility of the structural reliability-based design was examined for the access to risk-based design by utilizing the obtained results.-
