dc.description.abstractLocal scour is one of the significant process developed by the interactions between flow, structure and soil when a structure is exposed to currents and wave. Local scour around offshore foundations has not been stud-ied as extensively as in the case of bridge piers, apparently due to the more complex flow and scour process under current and wave. In most offshore foundations, local experience is relied on as the best guide for scour prediction, and an operation monitoring and remediation is considered necessary. In this study, computational fluid mechanics (CFD) analysis has been performed to understand these complicated processes. For the local scour process, two-dimensional model of a single cylinder pile and three-dimensional models of suction buck-et foundations and monopiles are utilized. The different stick-up height is considered for the suction bucket foundation and the different water depth is modeled for the monopiles. The calculated bed shear stress from CDF analysis is used to find the scour depth and extent by using an empirical formula. The holding capacity of suction bucket foundation and the lateral displacement of monopile with the presence of scour are studied to evaluate the scour effect on the different types and sizes of offshore foundations.-
