Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) has initiated a five-years-long research project to develop a hull form design for a year-round floating type offshore structure in Arctic conditions with dynamic positioning (DP) and mooring system. The Korean government supports this project and six participating organizations, Samsung Heavy Industry (SHI), Korean Register (KR), Pusan National University (PNU), Korea Maritime & Ocean University (KMOU), Dong-Eui University (DEU) and Inha Technical College (ITC), are conducting this project which is led by KRISO. In order to design an offshore structure hull form for the given operating condition in the Arctic region (ARC7), an ice performance evaluation methodology, which uses KRISO’s ice tank and numerical analysis methods, is being developed. Ice load estimation and development for mooring and DP systems are considered core technologies. In this paper, a brief introduction on the project is given and several results from the second year of the research project are also presented. Especially progress of ice-performance evaluation method for Arctic offshore structure using facility in KRISO is addressed with experimental testing results.-
