dc.description.abstract | Topology optimization is a powerful tool compared to sizing and shape design optimization due to its drastic change of optimal design. In this research we applied topology optimization to develop a optimal layout of a offshore jacket structure panel under compression loading. Topology optimization is performed based on the solid isotropic material with penalization to minimize the structural compliance of the offshore jacket structure panel. A volume constraint is applied toutilize same material amount compared to the rule based jacket panel design. Optimal design obtained from the topology optimization is converted to CAD data by applying morphing method. It is further revised by spline fitting scheme to smoothen the boundary of optimal design. Furthermore, structural performance of the optimal design obtained from topology optimization is experimentally validated under compression loading test with universal testing machine by comparison withthe rule based jacket panel design. | - |
