dc.description.abstract | To quantify fluorescence concentration in a chemical or biological sample, photomultiplier tube (PMT) or photodetector (PD) has been widely utilized [1]. While PMT can provide high sensitivity, e.g., < 100 ppb, it is a relatively expensiveand bulky optoelectronic device. PD can be an alternative with its cost-effectiveness and compactness, however, low sensitivity, e.g., > 1 ppm, limits its wide applications. Another drawback of these fluorescence detectors is that these optoelectronic devices are single pixel detectors which are vulnerable to various noises, e.g., dust or moisture, for on-site measurement. To address this issue, we propose a smartphone compatible field-portable fluorescence analysis platformcomposed of light emitting device (LED) and 5-mega pixel monochrome complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor (Fig. 1(a)). To evaluate performance of the proposed platform, fluorescence concentrations of various crude oils were comparatively tested. | - |
