dc.description.abstract | As all ocean engineering basins have limited length dimensions, a number of deep-water mooring lines are not able to be scaled down with a same ratio of a floater. One of reasonable approaches is designing a truncated mooring system which has similar static and dynamic properties with the prototype mooring line. In this paper, we tried to design truncated mooring lines in various ocean engineering basins. The finite element method based on the minimum potential energy principle was used in formulating dynamics of mooring lines. The prototype is catenary chain mooring lines which are installed at 1,000m water depth with 5,000m mooring radius. We could examine some surrogate mooring lines with a certain range ofweight in water, axial stiffness, and mooring length. Finally, a fundamental genetic algorithm was adopted to avoid the unnecessary calculations and then reduce the computational time. | - |
