In maritime environment, many studies have been proposed to provide data communications based on very high frequency (VHF), medium frequency (MF), and high frequency (HF) band. Because they have low data rates, in order to support various application requiring high data rates, a new communication system needs to be developed. In this paper, a long term evolution maritime communication system called as LTE-Maritime is introduced. LTE-Maritime is an ongoing research project inKorea coast and it aims to develop the communication infrastructure for providing higher data rates with coverage of 100 km based on LTE. Through the field test, the performance of LTE-Maritime such as throughput and reference signal received power (RSRP) is validated. Then, the propagation characteristics in maritime environment are analyzed by comparing the conventional propagation models with experimental results.-
