dc.description.abstractDemand of energy is expected to increase because of population growth and increment of energy consumption, so the number of energy facilities will increase. Fossil fuel power generation issues greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution, and nuclear power plants have the problem of safety and nuclear waste. Therefore, development of renewable energy is necessary. Although, existing land renewable energy is developed such as solar, wind, geothermal, bio, etc, but marine energy has not been developed much. Types of marine energy include wave, tidal, ocean thermal, salinity, etc. Among these type of energies, world’s largest tidal energy farm is located in South Korea (254MW, Shihwa), and 398MW class farm is on the plan in Meizen, Scotland. Several countries are developing ocean thermal energy, which named as OTEC and South Korea is on the plan for first MW class farm in Kiribati, South Pacific. In addition, existing renewable energy can be applied as offshore that has the advantage of low land costs. From the vast ocean, it will be a great help in securing future energy. For that, we have reviewed the level and trends of marine energy technologies, and survey of prospected future marine energy market to insist the necessity of development of marine energy and the value of marine energy technology.-
