dc.description.abstractAfter KRISO’s acquiring the AIP (Approval In Principle) from BV (Bureau Veritas) for the 1MW OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) plant mounted on the octagonal Sevan type floating structure as a demonstration model in 2015, conceptual design of 10MW OTEC plant was carried out for commercialization in the near future. The 10MW OTEC plant was planned to deploy four 2.5MW OTEC plant modules in an octagonal floating structure of the same shape. The octagonal floating structure for 10MW OTEC is 45m long and wide, 32.25m high and 19.75m draft, and the riser is 4m in diameter (outside diameter 4.2m). The experimental model was scaled down to 1/71.19. Model tests were carried out with floater and riser alone tests and floater-riser combined tests, with and without a damper (with a 5m high damping box attached to the bottom and a final length of 65m) attached to the bottom. The floating 10MW OTEC platform is being assumed to install on the tropical belt within 20 degrees north-south latitude, so that the wave conditions near the equator (Hs = 3.5m, Tp = 8.3sec) and around Hawaii or Fiji waters (Hs = 10.2m, Tp = 12.8sec) are included, and the maximum current speed was determined to 1.183m/sec. As a result of the model test and numerical analysis, 1) it was confirmed that the dynamic response obtained from the model test in the regular wave was in good agreement with the numerical results using the higher-order boundary-
