dc.description.abstractIn this study, a series of experiments were conducted in ocean engineering basin (OEB) of KRISO to investigate the characteristics of wave impact load on the FPSO bow. The model ship was made on a 1/60 scale and the material was made of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). The wave impact load was measured on 12 force sensors installed on the KFPSO bow. The experiment was conducted on three subjects. First, the experiments were conducted in four sea conditions (10, 50, 100, 1,000 year return period) and the impact loads were compared to find out at what sea condition a large wave impact load occurs. In addition, the wave characteristics causing the large wave impact load were investigated. It was observed thatthe steepness of waves is a factor that greatly influences the wave impact load. Second, the spatial distribution of wave impact loads was examined when a large wave impact load occurred. In the head sea condition, the wave impact load waslarge at the center of the bow and showed the highest value around the crest of waves. Third, the effect of current on wave impact loads was investigated. When the current is the same as the direction of the waves, it is observed that the wave impact load decrease due to the longer wavelength and the smaller steepness of waves.-
