dc.description.abstractMobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) performs drilling operations at offshore environment. In MODUs, a pipe handling system is in charge of delivering and assembling of all pipes. A pipe handling systems consist of many equipment, e.g. vertical pipe racker, mouse hole, cathead multi torque, cat walk, tubular feed machine, riser feed machine, riser gantry crane, iron roughneck, etc. This study aims to identify risky tasks related to a pipe handling system during its maintenance and to suggest risk reducing measures by conducting a Job Safety Analysis (JSA). In order to conduct JSA for the maintenance task of pipe handling system in MODUs, Firstly, critical tasks have been categorized which can lead workers toinjuries or fatality. Criticality is decided from 0 to 10 according to severity (0~6), frequency (1~3), and probability (-1~1). Secondly, several critical tasks have been defined which scores greater than 7. Checking pipes, hoses and couplings for hydraulic leakage was suggested most dangerous task during maintenance due to it’s possibility of repairing leak at non-zero pressure. Finally, JSA has been conducted for the critical tasks. The results of this study could be usedto lower the risk of future drilling work in MODUs. In order to improve the safety of the domestic offshore plant industry, the JSA results of this study will be published in the domestic industry as a database along with the results of oth-
