dc.description.abstractPolar sea ice, ecosystem changes and sea level rise due to global warming are important environmental concerns. Among these environmental changes, it is required to identify the cause of the acceleration of the thawing of the Antarctic ice which is realized from the subglacial lake found under the ice. To identify the causes, the exploration using autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs) is emerging. The application of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) under ice shelves, inwhich the conventional Ultra Short Baseline (USBL) system is not available, requires a special design of the vehicle. This paper introduces the conceptual design of the Hybrid-AUV (HAUV) for Under-Ice Surveying, which is launched and lifted through the ice hole. The requirements for the derived HAUV were estimated to be 1,000 m in depth and 2.5 km in radius of exploration, with an operating time of 6 hours. The diameter of ice hole that can be inserted is set at least 0.3m. After launching through the ice hall, it can be used as a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) depending on a mission type, and basically operated in AUV mode. In addition, this paper includes the results of the environmental survey of the polarexploration target area and the requirements of the Korea Polar Research Institute to establish the requirements for design.-
