dc.description.abstract | With “Sulphur Cap” of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations on marine emissions taking effect in 2020, a lot of ships around the world are under new construction or retrofit under LNG-powered ships. For the full-fledged industrialization of LNG-powered ships, it is essential to establish an infrastructure of bunkering system that can supply LNG fuel and develop operational technologies. The KRISO (Ships and Oceans Plant Research Institute) has been developing bunkering vessels that can bunker to LNG fueled ships operating off the country's coast with support from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The design is in progress based on IGC code, an international design standard for bunkering ships, and the dual fuel (DF) engine is applied. The design documents are expected to obtain “Design approval” through Korean Register within this year and carry out “Sea-trial and Gas-trial” and “Bunkering demonstration” until 2021 after completion of construction. It is expected that the foundation for revitalizing LNG-powered ship and bunker-ring industries will be established in Korea from the government supported project. | - |
