- Abstract
- Virtual reality technologies are widely used in engineering, architecture, medical field, military, and marine simulation. Using these technologies, KRISO developed the ship handling simulator and had the capacity to build a large, realtime 3D visual databases. This study focuses on developing the navigation-support system which is based upon these abilities of KRISO. As the initial phase of the development, mariners can move in arbitrary direction in the virtual marine environment, composed of a terrain, own ship, and traffic ships. Also, mariners can monitor the surrounding traffic situation by displaying velocity vectors of ships. This system can help mariners to navigate more safely in the sea and coast.
