- Abstract
- Recently, many ships have the special devices to reduce their rolling motion at sea. The widely used types of anti-rolling devices for a ship are Mass Driving Anti-Rolling System(MDARS), Anti-Rolling Tank(ART), and Fin Stabilizer. In this paper, the criteria for designing the anti-rolling devices were summarized and the design parameters were defined. The formulae to determine the parameters were derived through the coupled roll equations of motion of a ship and each anti-rolling device. The preliminary designs of passive and active anti-rolling devices were carried out. Finally the design criteria are suggested for a specific ship through the simulation of the motion in waves.
