dc.description.abstractWave run-up around truncated cylinder are investigated numerically and experimentally. Finite element method based on variational method is used for linear and second-order computations. Multi-mesh and numerical damping zone are adopted in order to improve efficiency and accuracy of calculations. Model tests are performed in ocean engineering basin of MOERI. The diameter and draft of prototype is 16 m and 24 m, respectively. The regular waves with 6 wave steepness and 4 periods are tested. Numerical results are compared with experimental measurements. Comparisons show a fairly good agreement in 1st-order harmonic components. Although Some deviations from second order potential theory are found in second-order components, overall agreements are reasonable.-
