dc.description.abstract | Recently, fire safety related regulations are focusing on performance based requirements rather than conventional prescriptive requirements. Under the new regulatory framework such as revised version of SOLAS chapter II-2, designers have more flexibility since they can deviate from conventional requirements specifying location and type of fire protective and extinguishing equipments. However, performance verification of fire protective equipments by experiments are expansive and, in some cases, impossible. Fire simulation softwares are beginning to be used as an alternate means to verify fire safety without actual experiment. However, many fire simulation softwares provide no or very limited functionalities for simulation of fire suppression systems such as sprinklers or water mist systems. In this paper, fire simulation software is used to simulate the performance of fire suppression systems and its feasibility to be used during fire safey evaluation is discussed. | - |
