dc.description.abstractShips transport over 80% of goods worldwide, and ship ballast water is a known factor for the movement of small organisms, larger plants, and animals beyond their biogeographical ranges. Dischcharged ballast water contains many foreign, too often invasive aquatic organisms and causes harmful effects on the ecosystem in the receiving water. Ballast water also negatively affects fisheries catchment, commercial activity, and marine resources. The International Maritime Organization(IMO) recognized this problem and adopted the 'International Convention for the Control and Management of Ship's Ballast Water and Sediments' in February 2004. The ballast water convention intensified ballast water performance standards that will come into force in 2009. Thus, this study has developed the prototype system for ballast water risk assessment which is suitable for protection of port environmental and biological environmental from introduced foreign organisms.-
